Police Officer James Hannon
Years of Service: 4 years
End of Watch: June 13, 1929
Officer Hannon was shot when he interrupted a burglary in progress at a pharmacy. While walking his beat and checking business doors, he noticed an opened door. He went to the nearest call box and called for assistance. He returned to the store and arrested one of the suspects as he exited the store. While making that arrest, a second suspect opened fire on Officer Hannon, hitting him in the elbow. Although he was wounded, Officer Hannon recorded a license plate number of a vehicle as the suspects fled the scene. As a result of his recording the license plate, the suspects were apprehended. Six weeks later, while undergoing corrective surgery, Officer Hannon suffered a heart attack and died. He was survived by his wife.
